FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Starz jpg logo
Parents and students tend to ask similar questions when they call us to ask about STARZ CENTRE.  We have tried to answer some of the most frequently asked questions below.  If you have any other queries please do not hesitate to contact us.
What classes do you have on offer at STARZ CENTRE?

We offer classes in  Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Pre-School, Singing, Guitar, Hip-Hop,  Teen Hip Hop, Adult Hip Hop and Tap, Bellydancing, also Music Lessons.  For a full description of these classes please go to the OUR CLASSES page.

Is it expensive?

At STARZ CENTRE we try to keep the cost of dancing down and have found that our classes are very competitively priced in comparison to other studios in the area.  Even though we offer inexpensive performing arts education our students have the benefit of learning in our 3 fully equipped, air-conditioned professional studios giving them all the advantages of an expensive dance education at a fraction of the cost.  Packages are available to ensure that parents get the best value.

Do we pay by the week or by the term?

All of our classes are payable by the term and fees are payable by the 3rd week of term.   Adult Tap and Adult Hip Hop are payable weekly.  If parents have problems paying by the 3rd week of term then they can work out a payment plan with our office manager.

What syllabus do you teach?

We teach the Australian Teachers of Dancing (ATOD) syllabus which is a well respected syllabus taught throughout Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong.  We also teach the ATOD pre-school syllabus called Pre-Ballet, Pre-Jazz and Pre-Tap which is for the 3-4 year olds.

Does your studio do exams?

At STARZ CENTRE we believe that dance exams and assessments are a valuable method of evaluating the students' progress.  Exams are held annually at our studio with registered examiners from the relevant associations travelling to us and assessing the students.  We encourage all students in syllabus classes to participate as examinations and assessments are the only fair way to compare the progress of the student against their peers throughout the country.  Exams undertaken are with the Australian Teachers of Dancing (ATOD).  Participants in exams or assessments are also eligible for consideration for our major scholarships as the recipients are chosen by the examiner.

Are the exams held at your studio?

Yes.  The ATOD examiner travels to our studio annually to examine our students so parents don't have to travel out of town for the student to undertake exams or assessments.

Do you have non-exam classes for the recreational student?

As well as syllabus classes (Ballet, Tap and Jazz) we offer open classes for various ages in a variety of styles.  These include Teen Hip Hop, Boys Hip Hop, Adult Hip Hop, Lyrical, Adult Tap, Stretch, Open Ballet, Singing,Guitar, Drama, Bellydancing.  For further information about these classes please visit the OUR CLASSES  page.

Do you have a concert at the end of the year?

We hold our annual concert at the School of Arts in Nowra in December.  After our exams are over the students start rehearsing for this concert.  There are usually 2 performances on the same day due to limited seating.  We try to keep the cost of the concert reasonable for all parents.  Costume fabric is paid for by the parent and then we buy the fabric in bulk.  Commercial patterns are used so parents can make the costumes themselves or they can pay a seamstress to have the costumes made.  The students keep the costumes afterwards (unless it is a hired costume eg. a tutu which is sometimes used in the Ballet or National Character dances).
